Manmohan takes time off to watch Shahrukh Khan film
"Yesterday, I watched a picture of Shahrukh Khan," Singh said at the NDTV Indian of the Year Awards function here on Thursday evening.
Singh, who gave away the award in the `Entertainer of the Year' category to Southern superstar Rajnikant, however, failed to recall the name of the film.
"I have forgotten the title of the film," Singh, who tried to remember the name of the movie, said.

Shah Rukh Khan on Bollywood's fittest men
Shah Rukh Khan's recently acquired six-packs for OM SHANTI OM, have grabbed maximum eyeballs and headlines, in the year gone by. Experts concerned with physical training like, Rahul Dev, have marveled at his new physique, especially as it was developed at the age of 40 plus. King Khan gives credit for the above to the motivational talks of his OSO director-cum-friend, Farah Khan, his strict diet and of course his personal trainer.
When asked the obvious question (that comes to mind), as to who are the fittest men in the film industry, as per the 'Baadshah' himself, the answer was not surprising at all. SRK finds Akshay 'Khiladi' Kumar fit and the original macho man, Sunny Deol as very fit. He also mentions the names of Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan in the same breath. Quite an impressive line-up to be inspired by!
Let us see if we are able to see more of Shah Rukh's six-packs (and now abs!) in the item song of Rakesh Roshan's KRAZZY 4, for which he is scheduled to shoot during the current week itself.
However, as Bollywood's global superstar himself says that he is very shy and is not comfortable about dropping his shirt (like his friend Salman Khan), it seems highly unlikely.
Shah Rukh Khan injured
The one quality in Shah Rukh Khan that seems more appreciable than all others is the generosity with which he supports his friends and protégés. The most recent beneficiary of his largesse is the My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves wanna-shine Nikhil Dwivedi. Not only has Shah Rukh been supporting Dwivedi’s starry dreams he has also been making sure the boy is seen in public places with the superstar.
After making his presence felt at the music release of Nikhil's film, Shah Rukh showed up at the film's premiere on Wednesday night with his leg obviously in pain. The star had injured his leg while rehearsing his steps for the Screen awards. "It was really very nice of him," says Nikhil. "The injury was an old one. But he hurt himself in the same leg while rehearsing for his performance at the awards." Shah Rukh couldn't stay for the whole film. Nevertheless, promised to catch up with My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves in a couple of days.Friday, January 11, 2008
SRK Bollywood's top tax payer
It's raining money in Bollywood and it's not just how much the top actors in the industry are earning, it's also about how much tax they are paying.
Sources say, Shah Rukh Khan has set a record of sorts by paying an advance tax of a whopping Rs 27 crore in December 2007. It is Rs nine crores more than what he paid last year. And the figure is bound to shoot up once he files his returns for the first quarter of 2008.
Actor Akshay Kumar, who has given four hits in a row this year, is in second place, his advance tax returns amount to Rs seven crore.
The Bachchans are in third, fourth and fifth place. While the Big B has filed returns of Rs 1.8 crore, son Abhishek has submitted 3.7 crore, while Aishwarya's advance tax returns total Rs 1.6 crore.
Himesh Reshammiya has been singing all the way to the bank and he has also paid a whopping Rs 2.5 crore as advance tax. Spinning sweet dreams on the silver screen is one thing. Payback time's not as sweet.

KJo’s Khan to begin this August
Karan Johar’s next film My Name is Khan, is finally expected to go on the floors in August this year.
The film stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead. Post-marriage and motherhood, this will be Kajol’s third film. After her comeback with Kunal Kohli’s Fanaa, Karan has been very keen to work with his favourite actress.
A source says, "The film revolves around the relationship of a husband and wife and what happens between them post 9/11. A bulk of the filming will take place in the US. Since most of the film will be shot on locales in and around UK, it remains to be seen whether Kajol will take up the project. The actress has always maintained that she does not like to be away from her daughter for too long. Currently, the actress is busy with her home production U Me Aur Hum." Following the success of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kajol took a sabbatical from movies. This is the only film that SRK has signed for the year and will be putting his entire attention on it after his other releases.
Goa was the place to be this big New Year
But while his wife Gauri was spotted at a couple of parties, SRK was conspicuous by his absence.
It turns out that Shah Rukh didn’t want to attend many parties, but spend quality time with his children.
So he sat down to play video games with his son Aryan and daughter Suhana. But while SRK missed all the parties, there were others who painted the town red on New Year eve.
Mehr and Arjun Ramplal, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Rohit Bal and Vijay Mallya were also seen chill-axing at the the party hot spot. But as always, Mallya did host the most happening do of the evening.

Khan: The magic Bollywood word
Khan is a four-letter word that spells box-office magic.
When Mangal Pandey was released in 2005, Aamir Khan [Images] was asked how long his luck would work at the box office. "At least for another 20 years," he had replied.
It looks like the actor's prophecy was spot on. And that seems to hold true for the other two Khans as well.
The year 2007 was dominated by Shah Rukh [Images], Salman and Aamir, who delivered the biggest hits of the year. The only other actor who came close to them was Akshay Kumar [Images] with hits like Namastey London, Heyy Babyy, Bhool Bhulaiya and Welcome.
One actor who could have taken on the Khan might -- Hrithik Roshan [Images] -- did not have any release.
So it was the Khans' playground with Shah Rukh leading the pack. The stupendous success of Om Shanti Om and Chak De! India only helped solidify his King Khan [Images] status. Salman's Partner and Aamir's directorial debut Taare Zameen Par were the other big hits from the Khan fraternity.
So exactly how does the Khan magic work?
According to Spice Marketing Communication Agency trade analyst Prabhat Chaudhary, "All these Khans are pre-liberalisation period heroes and have established a certain fan following. Their audiences and fan base have grown up with them so to watch their films is like an event for Indian families.
"There is a generation of loyalty in Indian families for the Khans and that has remained the same," he adds. "This generation just refuses to let them go. That loyalty base has not shifted to any other hero in the last so many years and that is the reason for the Khans' rule."
And so year after year, for the last 20 years, one of the Khans has always managed to deliver some of the biggest hits at the box office. If Aamir started the hit trend with the success of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Salman continued the run with Maine Pyaar Kiya, followed by Shah Rukh's Baazigar [Images] and Darr.
Salman then followed up with the smash hit Hum Aapke Hai Kaun. Not to be outdone, Shah Rukh delivered the all time hit, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.
And the Khan gold rush did not stop there. Up next was Aamir's Raja Hindustani followed by Sarfarosh and then the Oscar-nominated Lagaan [Images].
Dogged by controversies galore, Salman's popularity never dipped. His film Tere Naam [Images] created a record of sorts at the box office by getting the biggest opening in 2003.
So does having a Khan surname guarantee success in Bollywood? "It is not like that," says trade analyst Vinod Mirani. "They have done good work and all three -- Aamir, Salman and Shah Rukh -- have gained from it.
"There were other Khans too in between -- Zayed, Fardeen and even Arbaaz -- but none of them clicked in a big way," he continues. "The only other Khan that clicked off late was Saif Ali Khan [Images] after Hum Tum [Images] became a big hit."
About Saif's success, Mirani says, "It is a question of sustainability in the industry. One has to sustain for long and there is a great chance that one or the other film will click for sure."
Mirani points out that Amitabh "Bachchan too had 12 flops in a row before he delivered a hit in Zanjeer. He didn't give up and tried till he succeeded. Once you succeed then a couple of flops are pardonable in the industry because you have already created a loyal fan base."
So is it just sheer doggedness that guarantees success?
According to another trade analyst, Taran Adarsh, "One has to admit the fact that all three -- Aamir, Shah Rukh and Salman -- have worked hard to become successful. They have always chosen the best scripts for their films and so also (have had)luck, which everyone needs in life."
So will the same hold true for the others?
On condition of anonymity, a trade analyst points out, "Sparks were shown by Ranbir Kapoor [Images], Shahid Kapur [Images] and even Neil Mukesh. They are good but they still have a long way to go. Till then, the Khans will rule.
"Indian families," he continues, "keep some money aside from their monthly budget to watch a Khan film and that is going on for the last 15 years. That is a worrisome trend because the film industry has not produced any new big stars."
Till it does, we have the Khans.
Ask what works for him at the box office, Salman Khan [Images] told rediff.com an interview, "It is my ability to pick up the right scripts. I am a writer's son (Salim Khan of Salim-Javed fame) and I know which film will work and that is the reason my films work.
"I can pinpoint the script that will catch the fancy of the audience and will never let it go," he added. "I put a great deal of attention on it, and therefore my films work.
"I feel everything is destiny," he continued. "If something good is written in your fate it will happen and that is what has happened to me. If I was not an actor, I would have been a painter probably."

AJAY: NO DISLIKE FOR SRK
The actor who is less communicative with the media is often criticized for wrong reasons. Most importantly, for his relations with Shah Rukh Khan. The reports of his dislike for Shah Rukh are written and circulated too often. The reason is given that Ajay doesn't want her wife Kajol to work with Shah Rukh as the former had once upon a time described as the best pair of Bollywood. The chemistry between the two was quoted as the best. The pair had earned innumerable fans . This has stayed till now though Ajay has been regularly denying it. Of late, it was said that Ajay didn't respond positively to Shah Rukh starrer 'Om Shanti Om' in spite of an invitation from none other person than Farah Khan, its producer. Ajay clarifies it to leave no doubt .First, Ajay says , "I don't dislike Shah Rukh". He has said to a columnist in Goa during shooting for 'Golmaal Returns'.
Great 'catch' for some filmmakers who won't make films without him - Rajkumar Santoshi, Rohit Shetty... "There's a certain comfort zone," agrees Devgan. "They're all good directors, and if I suit a certain character, they approach me. It's simple! It's not campism; it's work." Besides Santoshi's 'Halla Bol' , the man has been roped in to play the title role in Raj's 'Ashok' as well. A previous attempt on the subject wasn't a very impressive fare at the box office. "We aren't attempting to re-make what has already been made before. Our story is post the Kalinga war, and how the Emperor embraced Buddhism," explains the actor. This makes me ask of Ajay's religious sensibilities. "I'm religious. I believe in most religions and also appreciate and try to follow the good virtues each of them propagates."
Referring to his absence from 'Om Shanti Om', he says he was out of town during the time the film was being made. I assure you that if I was in the city I would've done what Farah approached me for." When asked about Shah Rukh's six-pack abs, Ajay proudly says, "I like to take care of myself. I won't claim to have six-pack abs, but I do have a much toned stomach." Never mind Ajay's success stories, another high of his life is his first directorial venture, 'U-Me-Aur-Hum' which has been falsely hailed as a re-make of the Hollywood flick 'The Notebook' . With Kajol and him returning together on the big screen, the film truly seems to be a 'home production'. Sorry, their daughter Nysa will be missing in it as they are going by the script.

Shah Rukh Khan in Goa for New Year bash
The superstar of Bollywood has every reason to celebrate as the year that gave him two hit films draws to a close.
2007 has been a superb year for Shah Rukh Khan with both his films Chak De India and Om Shanti Om turning blockbusters. Now, the star has gone to Goa along with his family and close friends to usher in 2008.
The usual suspects joining SRK are Karan Johar and Arjun Rampal with his wife Mehr and two kids. Actor Jackie Shroff is also in Goa but it is not clear if he would join the party with the SRK gang.
The rush of Bollywood celebrities to Goa has particularly increased after the anti-SEZ protests were called off in the state.
While it goes without saying that SRK and friends would party on the night of 31 December, the stars might avoid moving outdoors for the fear of being mobbed by fans.
Not just film stars, even television actors from Balaji serials are in Goa for the New Year’s party.
Movies to watch out for in 2008
Hindi cinema's biggest star shone brighter than he has in ages, upstaging peers and well justifying that Badshah title: Everyone loved Chak De! India.
And, after winning over critics, audiences and hockey equipment manufacturers with a sincere performance, the King took his shirt off for Om Shanti Om, a heady, cheeky celebration of Bollywood inanity -- and, predictably, the hit of the year.
But what's this? For the first time since his 1991 debut, we are likely to see a year minus an SRK release. This is, by industry standards, a big deal.
While contemporaries like Aamir Khan have often taken sabbaticals, SRK has always, always tossed us at least a release or two each year. This just isn't his style. It wasn't planned, by the way. Khan was all set to work on a spectacular film called Robot, with Shankar - the man who directed Rajnikanth in that phenomenon called Sivaji -- but plans fell through. Also scrapped is a film with Munna Bhai director Rajkumar Hirani, and the result is the prolific megastar finds himself with a pretty open diary for the next eight to nine months. Your cue, producers -- but be prepared to fend off Karan Johar.
With the big cat away, everyone else is ready for the party. Corporate financiers are enhancing industry coffers without question, and Bollywood is geared up for an exciting, over-budget 2008. Heres a look at films to wait for.
Jodhaa Akbar
Historicals haven't exactly set audiences agog in recent years, but all that might change with Ashutosh Gowariker's next film.
Hrithik Roshan plays Emperor Mohammudin Jalaluddin Akbar, and all theatres need is an extended scene with him warming up before he puts on those cumbersome layers of armour. This is a man who can amply carry a script-less film, and here he has both Ashu and Aishwarya Rai to help shoulder the burden. Now, if only the film weighs in at less than four hours...
